Hourly Training
New SchoolFood employees learn the basics of their new position in one of
fourteen SchoolFood Training Centers located throughout the city. The six-day
program introduces new employees to our organization and provides hands-on
instruction in the typical tasks that SchoolFood employees are responsible for
on a daily basis in their assigned schools. The Hourly Training Manual offers
an overview of responsibilities, serves as an introduction to HACCP principles,
and provides all new staff members with current information about our
organization.

SchoolFood employees being upgraded to the position of Cook or Assistant Cook
need encouragement and information to take on their new responsibilities with
confidence. SchoolFood Training Centers provide a ten-day program for new
Cooks, focusing on food preparation techniques, incorporating HACCP principles,
developing positive supervisory skills, and instruction in completing food
production and inventory records. Providing new Cooks with information helps
them to make the transition to their new position armed with knowledge and a
greater understanding of our services. Cooks continue their training through
planned workshops held at the Citywide Training Center at Park West High
School, as well as workshops developed with our Executive Chef and Regional
Chefs.
